Sports betting is legal in Grenada and is regulated under the Gaming Act of 2016, which replaced the outdated Gambling, Lotteries and Betting Act of 1966 (1). The new legislation established a comprehensive framework for all forms of gambling including sports betting, with the Gaming Commission serving as the primary regulatory body responsible for licensing, supervision, and enforcing responsible gaming practices.
All gambling operations in Grenada must obtain proper licensing from the Gaming Commission before they can legally operate (2). The commission oversees various forms of gaming including bingo, gaming machines, betting, and lotteries, ensuring compliance with national gaming regulations and tax requirements under the Gaming Tax Act 2016.
"No gambling outlet shall operate in the State of Grenada without permission from the Gaming Commission."
Gaming operations in Grenada are subject to a 30% tax on gross receipts, with taxes due on the tenth of each month. Failure to pay by the due date results in a penalty of an additional 20% of the amount due, plus interest at 1.5% per month. The Inland Revenue Department is responsible for collecting gaming taxes, while the Gaming Commission handles licensing and regulatory oversight to ensure operators maintain responsible gambling standards and consumer protection measures.
