Sports betting in Burundi is highly restricted and overseen by the country’s sole gambling regulator, the Loterie Nationale du Burundi (LONA). Under current law, only activities operated under LONA’s authority are considered legal, effectively prohibiting any unlicensed sportsbooks (1).
As the national lottery operator, LONA holds exclusive rights to issue betting licenses. To date, the only authorized online sportsbook is Rahisibet, which must comply with stringent regulatory standards set by the government (1).
"LONA regulates gambling in Burundi. It operates the national lottery, sports betting and the Lydia Ludique Burundi casino in the capital. LONA has licensed Rahisibet, an online sportsbook site, which also offers a limited selection of casino slots."
All other forms of sports betting remain prohibited under Burundi’s gambling legislation, and violations can lead to enforcement actions, including fines and equipment seizures (2).
